Uganda Twinning Committee – Curry Night Buffet

The annual curry evening was held at the Chilli Lounge. Many thanks to Ruth Coneron for providing an excellent talk on the recent trip to Uganda.

The Great Legal Quiz

The Great Legal Quiz took please on Thursday 1 November 2018 at The Corner Taphouse and was very well attended by our members as well as staff and students from the University of Huddersfield as part of Justice Week.

In addition to the quiz, hosted by our Honorary Secretary Natalie Gibson from the University of Huddersfield , there was a charity raffle. On the night £350 was raised for the Access to Justice Foundation through the Yorkshire Legal Support Trust.

Giant Pub Games Event

Members took part in our giant pub games event at the Ukrainian Club in conjunction with Sunshine Events. Giant games included Connect 4, Jenga, Skittles, Darts, Air Hockey & Table Football.

Free Risk & Compliance Training hosted by JLT Legal Practices Group

Colin Taylor, Head of Risk Management at JLT Legal Practices Group discussed “Can you make money from de-risking?”

JLT believes it is possible to reduce exposures and the costs associated by raising risk awareness among fee earners including Partners. Our lunch and learn session provided members with insights to transform the often negative attitudes to risk and compliance. The most common feedback has been “that was surprisingly informative and entertaining”. Thank you to JLT for the delicious lunch and to Chadwick Lawrence for hosting us.

Annual Softball Competition – 5 July 2018

The Annual Softball Competition was held at the YMCA. The winning team was Walker Singleton, who were making their debut!

Annual Dinner – Thursday 31st May 2018 – Berties – Elland

The speakers for the evening were our President, Ashley Iredale and Vice President, Samantha Spain and Guest Speaker, crime author A A Dhand. Amit was raised in Bradford and spent his youth observing the city from behind the counter of a small convenience store. After qualifying as a pharmacist, he worked in London and travelled extensively before returning to Bradford to start his own business and begin writing. The history, diversity and darkness of the city have inspired his DI Harry Virdee novels, ‘Streets of Darkness’ and ‘Girl Zero’.

A charity collection for Huddersfield Mission raised over £500. Thank you to all of our members and their guests who supported the event.
